Polar Code Training Advanced (POLA)- Polar Water Course

Maritime Training Institute is pioneer training center for Polar Water Advanced Course – Polar Code Training Advanced (POLA) in Pakistan. We also offer this course to overseas candidates. 

The Advanced Polar Code Training course is principally intended for Masters and Officers in charge of a navigational watch involved in navigating in ice conditions.

The Advanced Polar Code Training course is principally intended for Masters and Officers in charge of a navigational watch involved in navigating in ice conditions. A trainee successfully completing this course will be able to use the knowledge and experience gained to overcome the problems brought about by navigating in ice-covered seas.

Use of the full bridge simulator is integrated into the training to provide real life scenarios.

Entry Requirements:

Those undertaking the training must:-
a) Have met the requirements for certification in basic training for ships operating in polar waters.
b) Have completed 2 months approved seagoing service in the deck department at either operational or management level polar waters or equivalent.

Equivalent seagoing service will be considered on a case-by-case basis based on evidence of familiarity with tasks listed in STCW Regulation V/4, Paragraph 4 and Section A-V/4, Paragraph 2 of the STCW Convention and code 1978. Evidence should be in the format of a company letter detailing; your roles and responsibilities against the guidance listed in Section A-V/4, Paragraph 2 of the STCW Convention and code 1978, the vessel(s) you worked on, the area(s) you operated in and the dates that your vessel(s) operated in the equivalent waters.

Training Outcome:

Outcome 1 Plan and conduct a voyage in polar water.
Outcome 2 Manage the safe operation of vessels operating in polar waters.
Outcome 3 Maintain safety of the ship's crew and passengers and the operational condition of life-saving, fire-fighting and other systems.

There are five outcomes to the training:-
I. Ensure vessel preparedness for voyages operating in polar waters
II. Ensure crew and passenger preparedness on vessels operating in polar waters
III. Plan and conduct a voyage in polar waters
IV. Manoeuvre and operate the vessel safely
V. Manage the response to emergencies These courses have been developed by experienced Ice Captains and Ice pilots which are recognized leaders from the industry, and duly approved by the Directorate General Ports & Shipping (DGP&S) Ministry of Maritime Affairs Govt. of Pakistan. The courses consist of a series of classroom-based lectures with practical group activities and SIMULATION “hands-on” exercises.

CERTIFICATION

After completion of the course and formal assessment the participant will receive the certificate, duly approved by the Directorate General Ports & Shipping (DGP&S) Ministry of Maritime Affairs Govt. of Pakistan.
